Hi,
I'm a long-time GNU/Linux user since Slackware 7.1, with lots of Slackware, Debian and CentOS experience. My dedicated server provider (OVH France) offers Arch as one of the "expert" distros, and I'm seriously pondering a 100% migration (servers and desktops) to Arch. First things first.
Initial upgrade gives me a new /etc/shadow.pacnew file, with an additional entry for 'dbus'. My reflex would be to simply merge that line as is into the original /etc/shadow, and then delete /etc/shadow.pacnew. Correct me if I'm wrong.
There's been another discussion about this, but the case was not the same, since the two files were more or less identical. Hence my decision to start a new thread.

Oops, I didn't get that right. I viewed the two files with Vim in :split mode and mistook one for the other. In fact, the original /etc/shadow file has a 'dbus' line in it that /etc/shadow.pacnew doesn't have.
So, simply delete the line beginning with 'dbus' ?

Thanks for the link. Believe it or not, I did search before posting. "shadow AND dbus", "/etc/shadow", "/etc/shadow.pacsave", etc. But as one of our great writers would say:
Ich sag' es dir: ein Kerl, der spekuliert,
Ist wie ein Tier auf dürrer Heide
Von einem bösen Geist im Kreis herumgeführt,
Und rings umher liegt schöne grüne Weide.

Are you using dbus? If not, I think it's safe to remove it.
