As you might know, Google is phasing out support for Gears and switching offline capabilities to HTML5. Still, a lot of people rely on Gears for stuff like offline Gmail. The latest official Gears release is 0.5.34 and it constantly gives an incompatibility error with firefox>=3.5.x. There is a google-gears-svn package in AUR, but it is also broken due to Google's bad design. Apparently the compilation process requires Firefox 2.x to be present as well, or else "make" fails. I guess it's coded like that for backwards compatibility, but honestly I couldn't care less about Firefox 2.x.
So, I tried building it manually, letting make fail when it comes to FF2 stuff, taking out the necessary parts for Firefox>=3.6.x and compressing them into an xpi file. The result is below. Enjoy

Thanks for this. I've been trying to figure out how to make gears work (error free) for a while now.
