I am trying to get this printer working.
I read and tried instractions from wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Brother_HL-2170W - Using the foomatic/pxlmono driver
However, I can't make this printer to print. In CUPS, I getting this error when I am trying to print something: "Unable to locate printer 'BRN001BA93EE9ED'!"
Additionally, in CUPS configuration, I can not select Brother 'HL-2170W Foomatic/pxlmono (en)', like its derected in the wiki page, I tried to select most that are avaliable there, with HL-2170W in them, but none worked.
I also saw package in AUR, https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=28729 But I don't know if it does any good.
I know it should work, I had it working under Ubuntu (Gnome) before, using CUPS as well.
Does anyone use this printer? How can I make it work?

Anyone? All drivers but hpijs-pcl5e driver give the error message which I stated in post above.
hpijs-pcl5e gives me this error: /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd failed
What can I do? I tried to change permission of lpd but it didn't help. They were rwx------, now rwx--x--x.

I have the 2150W and I've got it working.
Try to start avahi-daemon and select "dnssd" as connection type.

Add "blacklist usblp" (without quotes of course) to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
Try different drivers available for that printer model.
I have the same printer, and I am using Brother HL-2170W Foomatic/ljet4 driver.
My printer is connected to my windows machine via usb, and I connect to it from arch with samba.
If you blacklist usblp and follow wiki instructions then it should work for you, but be prepared to do some tweaking every time you update cups or kernel.
