Hello.
Would anyone know how to get a YMF724 PCI sound card working with alsa sound?
I've read recently that the firmwares were pulled from some other Linux distro's kernels due to legal reasons. Does my sound card's firmware need to be compiled personally in Arch as well?

Just try in a normal way.
install alsa-utils, alsa-oss (if needed), linux firmware =>Till now, I did not have any problem with any of the sound cards that I have on my laptops. (Unfortunately none of them was Yamaha. So can not say it for sure whether it will work)

It should just work. But for more details and specialist settings read this:

I've installed all of the above, but I"m not getting any sound.
Is there something I have to configure, before it will work? Is it true that running 'alsaconf' can mess my sound up, because I've already done that.
It didn't detect my card, even though it shows up in the 'lspci' devices.

Play a music CD or mp3 file. Open a terminal and type "alsamixer". Use "m" key to unmute sound channels and arrow keys to raise the sliders until you get sound.

Heh. That was it.
I had already maxed out all the channels. I didn't know it was muted by default, or that 'alsamixer' could mute/unmute.
Thanks.
