i686 Kernel without SMP?

Hi.

How would I re-compile the kernel, without SMP? And..., would I see any benefits from compiling without PREEMPT as well?

This is for an older PC.

Re: i686 Kernel without SMP?

Use abs or one of the fine kernels in the AUR.  Add a step for a make menuconfig and customize the processor section removing SMP and hyperthreading.  I doubt it'll make a difference.  See my sig for the kernel26-ck package.
