I noticed that dwarffortress recently moved over into community which is cool. I installed it and upon running it I get a error box popping up saying "Not found: data/art/curses_640x300.png".
I also don't see where it placed the actual resource directory for the game which might be part of the problem. The only thing I see it installed is /usr/bin/dwarffortress which is just a binary, there's no folder acompanying it.

/opt/df_linux/ seems to be the directory, if that helps.

pacman -Ql dwarffortress
My recommendation though is to just wget/tar -xvf in $HOME instead.
DF isn't really suited to be installed system wide due to how it's data structure and so on is.

Hmm I might try that, I have verified that the file it's erroring out on there is indeed there.

Check the permission on the file, and on the parent dir(s).

It's installed in /opt/df_linux
I did a "sudo chmod -R o+rw df_linux" to try to eliminate permission problems to no avail, the same error persists.

Bump. I made another bump post just a minute ago but apparently a black hole at it so...

That would have been the report you submitted

I don't know what the situation was with the version that was in the repos when you posted, but a new one was released on 10/16. I just installed to see if I could help out any and it ran perfectly.
The only thing I can think of is the program not being started either by typing `dwarffortress` or cd-ing to /opt/df_linux before executing libs/Dwarf_Fortress. Dwarf Fortress is very picky about where and how it's started and is not intended for multi-user use.

Aha! Apparently I only thought I could function without my contacts in

I've updated to the latest version since making this topic. I've tried starting it by typing "dwarffortress", clicking the menu item created by the package, and cding to /opt/df_linux before typing "dwarffortress". All give the same result.

Don't run that. Run the ./df wrapper script. (as the docs says)
And I would just extract it in $HOME instead of using the package. It really isn't designed to be installed syste wide, as said earlier.

dwarffortress is just a copy of the df script placed in /usr/bin for easy access that changes to the correct directory first.
Anyway, yeah, this is a case where just downloading the archive is better than an Arch package.

Alright so I downloaded the Linux version directly from the DF website and extracted it. When I run the df script I get the exact same error.
Also, I don't know if I mentioned this before but I get the following error in the terminal if run from there:
(Dwarf_Fortress:6272): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "qtcurve",
(Dwarf_Fortress:6272): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "qtcurve",
I have the qtcurve-kde4 package installed.

you need to get a bin32 version of that, or use another theme engine.

I installed lib32-qtcurve-gtk2 from the AUR. Now, the console error is not printed out but the dialog box with the "not found" message still pops up. The dialog box also looks slightly different, interestingly.

I think it is safe to assume that no-one here is able to help you any further with this - and bumping with empty posts is not helping.
