Ok, this is a problem I've had with multiple distros on multiple hardware, I can enjoy a solid stable distro without this happening. Archlinux would be Perfect if it weren't for this dam bug. Its happened for ages and I have no idea howto debug it.
System atm is:
Arch x64
Lenovo Thinkpad t510
KDE 4.45
Nouveau driver.
etc
Problem is, system runs fine, everything up to date. Then randomly after the system has been going for sometime it will lockup, everything freezes, video freezes and any playing audio usually stops but the mouse still works; as in it moves freely but obviously no clicks respond.
I enabled Ctrl + Alt + Backspace, even that doesn't respond. All I can do is a cold shutdown. And again. I had hoped it was a KDE or Nouveau or Gnome error, depending on which config I had running but no. Same thing with gnome, kde and Nouveau or Nvidia running or even mesa.
Help?

Are you able to switch to any of the TTYs when this is happening? (CTRL + ALT + F1..F6)
Nothing to find about the problem in any log files either?
Offline
TTYs do not work either, sometimes something may happen, but it never brings up a console login. will always just sit blank with the blinking cursor in top left. Unsure about logs, (or where to find them)

Logs are in /var/log - post /var/log/everything.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
Edit: According to http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T510 your notebook has two graphic cards so it may be a problem with Nvidia Optimus. Try selecting Nvidia / disabling Intel card in the BIOS.

The most recent lockup was the end of Dec 17 in the logs.

Hmm tis a good point, although Lenovo claim the Thinkpad dosen't have the ability to switch between the on board and Nivida it i7 is supposed to have it. I'll check that out.
Edit: Yup, you cant enable or disable the Intel GFX.

Lame, just happened again, mouse froze too this time. Had just finished installing an app from yaourt.

In the thinkwiki no one mentions similar problems w/ neither Ubuntu nor Fedora.
You said it happens "on multiple hardware" - do you have any exotic software / setup?
Offline
I know its a lil odd. I wouldn't say exotic, just standard arch packages. Actually disregard the multi hardware comment, its been a long time this may not have been the problem back then.

And happened again, I'm hoping its a KWin problem. As it seems to happen most l8ly when doing KDE things. like this last time pressed Alt+F2 for KRunner? instant freeze. But still don't know how to tell..
