I've been away from Opera for awhile due to Chromium, but decided to check it out again just now as Opera has after all been my mainstay browser for the majority of my online life.

I'm loving it. Forget Chromium if you want snappy. I think Opera could yet again become my browser of choice with 11. My only complaint so far is no support for offline gmail, but then again Google hasn't even bothered to do that for chromium.

opera supports offline imap for all imap servers. it can be enabled in mail options -> incoming

I prefer to use gmail's own interface and offline support though.

I've been using Opera for years now, and even though it gobbles up about half of my netbook's memory, I still wouldn't enjoy being without it... The mouse-click gestures are hard to do without, and I actually use most of its functions next to browsing (i.e. mail, chat), so it's worth it. Also the sidebar on the left is lovely for quick bookmark access.

The new version doesn't seem to play well with dark GTK themes, though. And I suppose the new stacking of tabs is funny, but I can't see any real use for it thusfar. And has anyone come across any extensions that proved useful? I haven't really looked yet, but like the widgets, they don't add much for me.

Extensions should be more important as time goes by.

However, I don't like the tabs stacking. It adds nothing useful and it makes dragging tabs to sidebar (which I do A LOT) too much slow.

Sadly there's no support for sequence-ish shortcuts like g,g or g,t in Opera 11. I'm talking about Vimperopera keyboard layout.

Most extensions are just user javascripts that have been around for years, like Snap Links. I generally perfer to use the userjs version of things if possible. One extension I hadn't come across in any form before though is Focus On Textbox.

It's pretty trivial to change shortcuts in opera.

Same thing on my mother's Ubuntu box. Nothing to complain about here. I think it's a DNS problem, once the page is there, it operates fast. I suspect a IPv6/non-IPv6-router problem.

thanks, seems to work for me. Just wondering why have activate ipv6 didn't made older versions of opera slow? Shouldn't this be a system wide problem?

I think it is Operas response to the fancy tab grouping in Firefox 4. And if I can get it integrated into my browsing flow I can definitely imagine it being useful.

I am also using the new Opera 11 and I really like it. In my opinion it is the best browser at the moment. It is very fast and has very advanced functionality. I do not use the Email, Chat and Torrent functions (got KMail, Konversation and rtorrent for that) but I still image them being useful (for example on a Windows PC).

It's decided - Opera 11 is for me one of the best browser releases for its time. So long chrome. The lost sheep has returned to the fold.

I love the extentions (finally), after some adaptation I am starting to appreciate grouped tabs as well. Very useful to for managing out-of-control number of tabs. And once I changed the F8 shortcut to F6 and fiddled a bit with tab behaviour, I don't even have to change my browsing habits all that much.

Despite being closed source, Opera is probably also the most customisable browser out-of-the-box.

And it really is ridiculously fast. Opera have got their work cut out to keep innovating on this, but if there was ever a browser development team up for that, it's them.
