Menu app recommendation

Can anyone recommend a lightweight menu app, that can parse and cache a directory structure filled with .desktop files? Ideally subdirectories would become submenus. Or anything close enough really, I could easily convert all the desktop files to executable shell launchers for example. And I could live with manually creating the submenus.

Re: Menu app recommendation

What WM are you using?

There is a script (in the AUR, I think) called menumaker that can make menus from .desktop files for Openbox/Fluxbox/IceWM/XFCE(probably outdated)/Compizdeskmenu

Re: Menu app recommendation

Thanks for the suggestions, but quite by accident I discovered this:
Popdown, and it's exactly what I've been looking for!

(no need to configure, just point it to the .desktop files you want, and subdirectories can act as submenus).
