Hey everyone.
How well does Arch handle broken dependencies in comparison to Gentoo's portage system?

i don't get it.
you want to install packages and ignore some dependencies?
you found a broken package which has a missing dependency or needs to be rebuilt?

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

no I am thinking of switching to Arch Linux. I want to know if Arch linux can handle any dependency issues as well as Gentoo can. Such as is it easy to uninstall a package with out breaking the system? the same goes with upgrading a packaging with out breaking the system.

Not really fair to compare a binary distro with a source-based distro in this regard, nor is it really the job of the package manager in either case.
If lib B is a non-mandatory linktime dependency of program A, there's a high likelihood that removal of lib B will cause program A to stop working. A recompile is necessary in any distro.

In Arch we have optional dependencies. Those dependencies don't have to be installed for the program to run, but installing them will offer additional functions. You won't get more with a binary based distro!

Anecdotally, I just recently did a pacman -Rsc kdelibs, which broke about 800 packages (temporarily) in order to force a reinstall of it later.
Pacman smoothly patched it right back up after -Syu.
