Hi all,
If I remember correctly, on my much older Arch installation on this computer I installed VLC and it came with a plugin for mozilla/firefox. Now the plugin doesn't seem to exist... Before it worked with me just doing a
pacman -S vlc
From my Gentoo days, I remember that there was a USE flag for this. USE="mozilla". I kinda remember that for a plugin to be created/compiled you actually need the mozilla headers which I don't think come with firefox
(needless to say, mozilla is not installed as the latest GNOME package only installs firefox now (and thats a GOOD thing!)
Any help/suggestions?

AFAIK all the stuff needed for compiling mozilla-dependant software was moved to the firefox package.

Right... I wonder whats happened to the plugin then? Cause I could have sworn that it worked.
Can anyone confirm this?
I'm using gxine for the time being, for the plugin

You ought to recompile vlc with --enable-mozilla to make it work. Mozilla plugin is by default disabled in vlc configure scripts and isn't implicitly enabled in default vlc PKGBUILD. Go ABS :-)

Hi,
Arch ships the mplayer-plugin now, if you wanna have an out of the box
working browser plugin.

Or mozplugger, if we're talking about other multimedia plugins ;-)

I've decided to go with mplayer and it's plugin just for watching media-enabled sites, and I keep both totem and vlc around though I prefer totem for some unexplainable reason :?
I like how the media front is working on linux now. I can actually watch almost everything I want to on the internet now!
Thanks for the advice all

btw, dumb question.. where do I find the respective PKGBUILD's... I thought I read that they are in /var/cache/pacman/pkg but I can't see them unless I'm being stupid

As root, run abs. Then the PKGBUILD are in /var/abs

cheers Snowman. I was going to wait till after my exams to look into ABS. Didn't realise that it was needed to see the PKGBUILDs... Lesson learnt

You can also get them from the Arch CVS: http://www.archlinux.org/cvs.php It also has the old versions.

Thanks again! I'll have a quick look at ABS and check how to recompile VLC with the mozilla option enabled

I have yet another question: since I have actually just realised that the --enable-mozilla option is not in the PKGBUILD for VLC, should I submit a bug report for this as I feel its a good addition? Or is there another place to submit package recommendations?

You can submit a but report. Just use the Low/Feature request Severity. You can also contact the maintainer.
