Players choking on internet radio

Hi there

I did a fresh Arch install after after a disk failure, and i've ran into a strange problem.
Whenever im trying to listen to an internet radio i Clementine, it plays for a couple of minutes, then playback starts to "choke" for a few seconds and playback hangs completly. Moc also does this, but to a lower degree. Im using pulseaudio with a recent alsa, everything else i.e. mp3 playback works without problems. I've looked into system log and dmesg, and found this

I use pulse and vlc to listen to internet radios and it usually works for hours without any problems.

Have you considered the possibility that the problem is with your internet connection or the radios with listen to?

Can you try with another player such as vlc and configure vlc to use pulse and see if it still has problems? Do you use anything that tries to use only alsa or the hardware directly?

Vlc with pulseaudio output does the same, but instead of hanging playback, it seems to reset itself wit this console output:

Vlc with pure ALSA does exactly the same.

On Windows the radio plays flawlessly on Clementine, so it doesn't seem to be a network issue.

You could try alsa player. It's "heavily threaded" so it sometimes does a better job of playing internet radio.

Thats strange, it looks like a driver bug but you say it works fine playing a local file so if it was a driver bug I guess there should be the same problem.

The only other things I can remember of is trying to increase the size of the (download) buffer on vlc (or the other players) and trying a live cd of another distro, which probably will have a kernel version different from arch, and see if you still have problems.

No idea why, networkmanager shows that download is running on 16KB\s (radio bitrate) while playing, should be enough.

That must be a problem with the stream itself, either the speed or the encoding.

VLC shows problems with those streams both on linux and windows (in an VM) here. If other windows players do not have problems they must be using some other decoder that silently ignores whatever is causing problems, or they have a different caching strategy that avoids this corner case.
