"CardBus bridge" is usually for PCMCIA, why I asked.

You said loading module "ipw2200". Is it for a pci card or onboard chip? Or external driver?

Why I am asking, lshwd uses three tables (/usr/share/hwdata/pcitable, usbtable and pcmciatable). I need to know where to add the module (ipw2200), to replace "unknown".

Re: Improve hwd/lshwd ("hwd -u")

I'm using ipw2200 for my Intel 2200BG wlan card. I guess it is onboard. It's automatically detected and loaded @ boottime by hotplug.

Re: Improve hwd/lshwd ("hwd -u")

Confirmed: IPW2200 is only a wi-fi onboard card. More specifically, it is part of the Centrino suite.
My outputs follow (me too with IPW2200).

I assume the i810 for my graphics card is the kernel driver no? It *works* with i810, but it works a LOT better with the kernel i915 driver.

hwd and lshwd both INCORRECTLY detect my wireless connection. I have an original centrino wireless, ipw2100. (ipw2100.sf.net)
It is not the same as the ipw2200 has a different driver, and will not run with the ipw2200 driver.

Currently I do not have my wireless driver modprobe'd

If its of any interest, I have a firewire CD drive plugged into the firewie listed.

No, there is no vendor/device number. In lshwd's pcitable there is a bug showing two set of ids in same row. Is any of them your device?

Bug:
0x8086    0x1043    0x8086    0x2527    "ipw2100"    "Intel Corp.|MIM2000/Centrino"

Correction:

0x8086    0x2527    "ipw2100"    "Intel Corp.|MIM2000/Centrino"

I looked at the name of the devices in the pcitable, /usr/share/hwdata/pcitable and no, mine isnt one of the ones with two on one line. mine is the, Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100. which is further down on its own line.

I edited those lines, removing 0x8086 0x1043 from the start of them, i didnt make the duplicate ones like your correction. ls/hwd now correctly identify my card.

I am 100% sure that the id 8086:1043 is the one for my card, because I remember it from when I used ndiswrapper in its earlier and more primitive forms, before the intel sponsored open source driver before this card came out.

Re: Improve hwd/lshwd ("hwd -u")

Rasat: Could you change the kernel driver for my graphics card to i915 instead of i810?

i915 is newer and I get a substantial rise in fps when playing games with it.

I don't know if it's possible but can hwd also detect stuff like speedstep-centrino? Do you still need this information? I can post of other computer to.

It can detect everything as long as there is an assigned vendor and device id in one of the tables (/usr/share/hwdata/), and /usr/bin/hwd script includes the detected type of device e.g. "USB Controller", "Multimedia audio controller", "VGA compatible controller", and etc. This is why I am maintaining this topic to check for new device types and id numbers.
