Asus EEE PC, harddrive spinning down...

Hello,

I have a Asus EEE PC with a regular harddrive, not an SSD and I have installed laptop-mode-tools and put it in the rc.conf, then I changed the laptop-mode.conf to use all auto config files and now when i use the netbook without the power connected the harddrive spinningdown every 20s i think... That can not be god for the harddrive?

These is the settings i think...

#
# Should laptop mode tools control the hard drive idle timeout settings?
#
CONTROL_HD_IDLE_TIMEOUT=1

#
# Idle timeout values. (hdparm -S)
# Default is 2 hours on AC (NOLM_HD_IDLE_TIMEOUT_SECONDS=7200) and 20 seconds
# for battery and for AC with laptop mode on.
#
LM_AC_HD_IDLE_TIMEOUT_SECONDS=20
LM_BATT_HD_IDLE_TIMEOUT_SECONDS=20
NOLM_HD_IDLE_TIMEOUT_SECONDS=7200

Should I change the IDLE_TIMEOUT value? Or should i turn of the idle timeout?

Is there any more important things with laptop-mode to think about?

Re: Asus EEE PC, harddrive spinning down...

20 seconds is the default in laptop-mode-tools, I think it is a bit harsh and have changed mine to one minute and never for when on ac
I have left the defaults for most everything else tho

You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me.
