Well, I have installed the alsa-utils and alsa-lib packages. I could run alsamixer but I was missing Master and PCM channels. alsamixer showed my soundcard as Realtek ALC887. I installed the alsa-driver.hda-intel.hda-codec-realtek-git (what a mouthful) from the AUR in hopes that would help but no luck. alsaconf returns "No supported PnP or PCI card found"
tried adding "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" to both modprobe.conf and alsa-base.conf (is this depricated?) with no luck.
when I modprobe snd_hda_intel I get a lot of output in dmesg which can be seen here:

I understand some channels were set to zero when the alsa-info.sh was run
Any Ideas? I imagine it is a module problem as alsamixer shows my soundcard but does not have all the channels.
I should note that the speakers I am trying to use are on my monitor which is connected to the PC via HDMI
