[Solved] Failure to Recognize SD Card

Hello! I'm pretty sure this worked before, but I don't use my Acer Timeline's multi-card reader very often. I'm trying to read a micro-SD card inside an SD adapter. Upon inserting the media, dmesg tells me:

usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
scsi13 : usb-storage 1-3:1.0
scsi 13:0:0:0: Direct-Access     Generic- Multi-Card       1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 CCS
sd 13:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0
sd 13:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk
usb 1-3: USB disconnect, address 6

I have no idea why it disconnects. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hal is one of my daemons, as Thunar still uses it, but the behavior did not change after stopping hal. I'm not sure what else is relevant, so please let me know if I can help you help me.

Try with micro-sd inserted

If I do it immediately after insertion, I get:

Bus 001 Device 008: ID 0bda:0159 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Digital Media Card Reader

in the results. If I wait a few seconds and try again, that entry disappears.

Try mounting the card under a livecd or a plug in usb adapter this will at least rule out a problem with internal one

Aha, thank you. Just tested with from Linux Mint, with the same results. So this is likely a physical problem, either with the drive or the adapter. I get the feeling it's the adapter. I'll pick another one up tomorrow if I can, and write back when I figure it out.

But since I'm pretty sure it's not a software/arch issue, I'll mark this as solved. Thanks Mr Green!

Just confirming, it was a faulty micro-SD to SD adapter, all's well.
