I have a problem with screensaver. While i'm watching a movie in vlc (fullscreen ofc), screensaver starts : /
Does someone know how to solve this?

Which desktop environment are you using?

ups... KDE

I dunno about KDE's screensaver, but with gnome-screensaver and xscreensaver and mplayer, simply add a line in ~/.mplayer/config to disable the screensaver. Elegant solution.
You'll have to google for KDE/VLC.
See my dotfiles for an example.
EDIT: try caffeine - works for apps that don't have this functionality.

Hi, I'm not using KDE but the same thing happens with Gnome - I think the issue is that the implementation of xdg-screensaver is not correct in either Gnome or KDE at the moment and this is the method that vlc uses to inhibit the screensaver. See:
http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=84488
If you use the command in a terminal 'xdg-screensaver status' while vlc is not playing a video and then when it is playing the outputs are probably different in KDE as they are in Gnome?

Install xorg-xset package and select "Video -> Disable screensaver" in vlc's advanced preferences.

For KDE you could also adjust power management (I've got video and music profiles for my laptop) or the screensaver itself.

Install xorg-xset package and select "Video -> Disable screensaver" in vlc's advanced preferences.
it's already disabled.

This happens to me too sometimes, but not every time. I haven't been able to recognize a pattern because it doesn't happen that often.
I'm using vlc in openbox and have gnome-screensaver running.

it's already disabled.
Is the xorg-xset package installed though?
Offline
yep, it's installed.

Right, you indicated that it was enabled and not working, this is plan B.

Is it a screensaver or is the screen turning off? Whenever I want to turn off the Display Power Management Service (?) I just run:
$ xset -dpms
To turn it back on:
$ xset +dpms
If it's a screensaver issue then you should be able to turn it off in some preferences somewhere but if the problem is X turning off the display then this should stop it.

xset s off
should turn off the screensaver

Are all the boxes unchecked in
System Settings ---> Display and Monitor ---> Screensaver

Well, you can try using mplayer w/ my config which should work or you can figure out why vlc isn't working or you can remove the kde screensaver and try another or... I dunno. I offered up a solution that you're unwilling to try. You can lead a horse to water...

thnx for advice but as I already said, it's vlc related issue and yours config files can't help me. I tried.
I would rather turn screensaver off than install some program to "solve" my problem. But thnx anyway.
