Title says it all . Somehow VLC opens when I click my home button for file managing, instead of nautilus. Can't find a way to change the file:// handler...

I have the exact same problem (running gnome 2.32.1)
“Clearly, Field Marshal Haig is about to make yet another gargantuan effort to move his drinks cabinet six inches closer to Berlin.”

Open a terminal and type nautilus to open it then right click a folder and choose Open With .... and for the application for it to open with choose nautilus.
Hopefully that makes sense.

i'm not 100% shure about tela's situation, but my problem shows when i click the home button in the places drop down menu (gnome bar). this action will start VLC instead of nautilus. when i click a folder icon in the desktop it starts nautilus as expected.
i've been snooping around gnome configs but no success thus far.

This is exactly my problem I've now noticed thanks to your comment. Got solution yet?

Crazyiom already posted the solution. I used the exact same way in reverse to make Dolphin open when I choose Home from Places.

What happens when you type
xdg-mime query default inode/directory
In a terminal?

nothing.
no ok or error message is returned.
lothar_m@frodo:~$ xdg-mime query default inode/directory
lothar_m@frodo:~$
the problem remains.

A temporary solution I'm using is uninstalling VLC, I'm going to keep looking for a real answer, but this works for now.
I've been looking this up all night and no one has a solution that works, or can't explain a solution at the basic level that I can understand.
