Hi!
I'm using KDE desktop environment (minimal installation), and I have patched fontconfig and libxft with original LCD packages from AUR.
Problem is, that fonts in KDE panel and desktop are rendered without subpixel rendering, and every other application uses it normally.
You can see the problem in screenshot: http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/9335/kdefonts.png (it's easier to see when you zoom in)
I've checked ~/.fonts.conf , tried to create /etc/fonts/local.conf , tried to log-in with new user account, but without luck.

I had the same ;-)
enable font dpi at 96 and put fonts at 10 minimum

Nope, it doesn't help

No, I have original LCD Filter patch.

try infinality patch
or
remove /etc/fonts.local.conf AND ~/.fonts.conf. Then reboot

I've tried infinality before, but didn't manage to get fonts to look like I want. I like thin fonts, and original patch renders it that way.
Anyway, I doubt that infinality patch would fix that, because it looks that kde panel and desktop doesn't apply configured subpixel rendering at all.
I've tried already to remove /etc/fonts.local.conf and ~/.fonts.conf, no difference.

remove /etc/fonts reinstall fonts packages
=> makes you come back at 0 conf
then reinstall fontconfig packages, libxft and cairo

Which font packages should I reinstall? I found /etc/fonts files in fontconfig package, but without symlinks which are created in default installation.

Yeah, I had those, but they look too blurry to me. I like sharp fonts, like they are in my screenshot (it's a matter of what you get used to, I guess).
btw. it looks like your fonts in desktop widgets (and those in bottom panel) are also not subpixel rendered (try to zoom in and look for color edges).
which theme(s) do you use?

I have these packages : xorg-fonts-type1 ttf-dejavu artwiz-fonts font-bh-ttf font-bitstream-speedo gsfonts sdl_ttf ttf-bitstream-vera ttf-cheapskate ttf-liberation ttf-ms-fonts
You just need to remove entire /etc/fonts to going back at 0 conf (I don't really understand your question)
I know for kde plasma desktop but I'm still waiting the answer from infinality forum. But it is still correct this way. what could I do else ?
I'm using bespin theme, nitrogen for window titles and a mix of oxygen/air for widgets
ps: sorry for my bad english ^^

Well, after default system installation, there are many symlinks in /etc/fonts/conf.d pointing to conf.avail directory. When I delete /etc/fonts/ directory, and reinstall fontconfig package, /etc/fonts/ is re-created, but without those symlinks, so fonts looks messy (becase these files contains font locations, rendering options, font substitution etc.). so it's not exactly 0 conf. I could re-create them manually, but I'm not sure this is the best way. How can I find out which packages do I need to reinstall?

I'm not sure they could help you, since I don't use infinality patch, and having the same problem. It's probably KDE/plasma bug.
ps: sorry for my bad english ^^
Don't worry, my english is far from being perfect, too

I read these symlinks conf could be replaced by /etc/fonts/locale.conf. It's why I suggested you to remove them.
When I had similar problems, I removed /etc/fonts, ~/.fonts.conf then reinstalled cairo, libxft and fontconfig (have you tried ubuntu packages? it's more sharp), reboot and then created a new font.conf. And it went well
BTW:
Have these in your ~/.Xresources:
Xft.autohint: 0
Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
Xft.hintstyle: hintfull
Xft.hinting: 1
Xft.antialias: 1
Xft.dpi: 96
Xft.rgba: rgb
??
and do not forget that ~/.fonts.conf must be " chattr +i " (how to say in english? unusable) if you use /etc/fonts/locale.conf
I know for kde bug, it is caused by qt4.7 but I asked them for a workaround ;-)

OK, I've tried that, but still no difference. Changing qt graphics system also doesn't help.
Yes, I've tried ubuntu patch, but it's even more blurry

I'm sorry but I don't know what you could do more ...! what I recommended you to do worked for me
Tell me if (I hope so) and How you manage it when you succeed !

OK, I've found a workaround:
- install Androbit Plasma Theme (http://opendesktop.org/content/show.php?content=123524)
- switch kickoff kde menu style to classic

ok thanks ;-)
