And what is the purpose of this? Instead of just installing the ghostscript-8.71-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz package with pacman -U?
Someone told about missing dependencies or something

HP 1018
Rename old ghostscript-8.71-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz into ghostscript-9.00-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz and install it with "pacman -U". It is some kind of deceit but don't judge me) Works perfect, though
For: "you can rename the packagename": yes
For: "this will close the dependency problem": No!
Rename it do not rename the installed package...
Cancel me not -- for what then shall remain?

Indeed... Sorry, mate.
Is there some information inside the archive? I haven't found anything but I've tried

Just install the old version of that package!
For example: http://arm.konnichi.com/extra/os/x86_64 … pkg.tar.xz
And old versions of some packages depending on it.
In my case these were (if you have them installed):
graphviz (to 2.26.3-1)
libspectre (to 0.2.6-1)
You might need to downgrade something else.
After that add names of those packages to pacman.conf:
IgnorePkg = ghostscript graphviz libspectre
And you're done. Once the fixed version of the ghostscript makes its way to Arch you can remove this line and update as usual.
Renaming packages doesn't change anything, it only makes a mess.

64bit HP6940 also prints negative.
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

Just to let everyone know. I installed ghostscript from svn today. No changes, still most pages are printed as negatives. Very annoying...

I have the same problems with my Samsung ML-2010. Using the samsung-unified-driver from AUR didn't work for me either (the printer is connected to my router).
I downgraded ghostscript to 8.71-2, now images are printed correctly.

For the Record:
Brand New HP Officejet 4500 g510n-z printer that was also printing negative photos. (text was also a greenish gray instead of Black). The Downgrade fix worked here as well. for those Arch newbies like me, heres the steps:
1 Download http://arm.konnichi.com/extra/os/x86_64 … pkg.tar.xz
2 move the file to /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ and remove the 9.00 version.
3 sudo pacman -Ud ghost*
4 add ghostscript to your ignorepkgs= in /etc/pacman.conf
you should be good to go.
with just the -U flag i was told that libspectre had the newer version of ghostscript as a dependency, but so far I have had no problems. Hope this helps someone else.

After installing the latest HPLIP and ghostscript, the color management went south.
The pix are poorly printed and are negatives.
This is not solved by using earlier ghostscript.; -8-70-4.
Printer prints first page of text file fine, but second page is a real mess.
This happens with the latest ghostscript.
Using the older ghostscript solves the text printing but not the color management ...negative image.

I had the same problem with my hp laserjet 1000.
I updated to ghostscript from SVN and uploaded the PKGBUILD:

Related problem for HP6840 printer.
With 8.70-4 ghostscript installed, windows install of printer permits in properties..effects...fit-to-page... for image files of large pixel size.
This permits a letter-sized print of the large pixel-sized image files.
What is the corresponding setting in HPLIP for large pixel files?
