Hello archers,
Considering I don't have a wooden laptop at all, is it normal that my Xorg uses in average 15% of one of my CPUs even when idle ? (I would be quite surprised to get a positive answer...)
Is there any way to reduce this number ? Because I find it bothering to hear my fan running whereas I'm doing hardly anything with my computer.
Thanks for all your answers.

No, xorg should take up about 1% CPU.
The problem is common.

Shall I understand that there is no common solution to this common problem ?
It is quite surprising since I run on awesome-wm with no compositing...

I have Xorg using 8% of CPU (frequency is approximately 2GHz) when "uTorrent" under "wine" is running and 0% otherwise. Do not know why.
Observe it when Xorg is running with "xterm" only.

@beroal: I said "when idle", so I observe it with nothing launched.

I'm having the same issue as well. My laptop is a little more than 3 years old, but it still has some horsepower. I've noticed that X sits around 20% cpu usage for me for the first 2 to 3 minutes I log into KDE. After that, it seems to go down to 1% to 5%. I'm not sure if this is normal behavior or what. I've also got a NVIDIA card and I'm using the NVIDIA drivers.
