which in turn does not see the SATA drives that are attached to those 2 ports. The same thing happened when I was installing Arch Linux and I had to move the hard drive I wanted to install Arch onto to a different port on the motherboard so I could install. I have spent a fair amount of time trying to find a solution to no avail.

In my search I came across https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/595448 which seemed very similar to my problem. I tried to build a new kernel going by the archwiki instructions and the changes this guy made to the config file to see if that would fix my problem. Using the test kernel to boot it errors right at the beginning unable to find root by the UUID. I tried changing the path in /boot/grub/menu.lst from the UUID to sda1 and it didnt make a difference. Probably something I dont understand about compiling the kernel that was my downfall here.

At this point I could really use some professional help getting thiese 2 SATA ports working as this is a server box and I have every port full of hard drives for storage.

The motherboard is an evga 780i. I thought maybe it was the SATA cables but I can put any one of my samsung HD's(1x2TB,2x1TB,1x750GB) or my WD 300g raptor and get the same result.

Thank you to anyone who reads this and anyone else who can help me out.
