Ivman needs to be relaunched to automount device [SOLVED]

Hello to all,

I am trying to setup ivman to automount my usb sticks and cd/dvds via udev/hal/pmount.
I've followed these instructions:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ivman
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ivman_HowTo
http://productivelinux.com/2009/01/31/h … nd-pmount/

I've configured ivman to use pmount and added device entries to /etc/pmount.allow. If I plug a device, hal recognizes it but ivman does nothing. I leave the device plugged, I kill ivman and relaunch it. Then ivman automounts it under /media. If I connect another device I'll have to restart ivman again in order to have it mounted too. If I use manually pmount, everything mounts fine. I have also tried running ivman both as a daemon (entry in /etc/rc.conf) and as a user process.

ivman -d --nofork (debug) gives no output while I connect/disconnect devices.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

Dimitris

Can I assume you didn't notice how out-of-date ivman is? 0.6.14 was released nearly four years ago. It also depends on hal, which is not a good idea, since hal is effectively obsolete.

I'd suggest udiskie instead.

Yes I know it's unmaintained. The aur version is patched to work with newer versions of hal, but as I see now the last package update was in October 2008. Should it be flagged out of date?

Anyway thank you, I'll try udiskie smile

Edit: I tried it and it works great. Thanks again!

Flag it out of date if you want - I think it should be dropped myself,
