Not true. Here's the output from my Mobility Radeon HD4330:
$ aticonfig --od-gettemperature Default Adapter - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series Sensor 0: Temperature - 62.00 C
Then I did something wrong somewhere...
aticonfig --od-gettemperature
ERROR - Get temperature failed for the Default Adapter - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series

Hmm, maybe your motherboard does not have a temperature sensor on the GPU?

if you run with kde, pyatimonitor plasmoid can do the trick

Well, it's an HP ProBook 4710s and I don't even get it on windows, so I guess that is true. Oh well, it's just a minor nuisance, really.

The same to you.

Maybe someone helps this for solving the SUSPEND Problem (instead of waking up --> restart / reboot) :

Hey guys... have you checked this?
Excuse my poor English.
Offline
Yes, I have tried it today.
At launch :
Some necessary functions are not support by either your hardware, the Catalyst driver or the ADL.
Here is a list of problems:Failed to get fan speed information
Failed to read current fan speed
And the program exits , so I cannot do anything.

Back to my (over)heating problem: Any ideas yet?

AMDOverdriveCtrl
I was (and i am) catching same info as yimm:
Here is a list of problems:
- failed to read current fan speed.
and then program was exiting, but since version 1.1 author of this software (Thorsten Gilling <tgilling@web.de>) let it to work even if there's no info about fan.
I'm able to change cpu/mem frequency and voltage, to crate Application Profiles and watch temperature, and im ofcourse unable to control the fan.
I can get fan speed info with aticonfig, so i think the problem lays somewhere between my GFX and AMD Display Library on which AMDOverdriveCtrl is built...
(please note that i've checked precompiled AMDOverdriveCtrl extracted from author's deb packages and built from the source on my own - with same results)
It could be useful, so i decided to put amdoverdrivectrl into AUR and into the repo.
2.6.37 kernel
I wrote about this on the AUR's catalyst comments section, but it could be pretty important to those intrested so let me repeat it here:
catalyst seems to work fine on 2.6.37 as long as kernel is compiled WITH BKL option (still default), so it will NOT work with CONFIG_BKL=n option.
Relax, it will work with archlinux's 2.6.37

And what does BKL do?

changing voltage and frequencies doesn't work with AMDOverdriveCtrl on HD4670 mobility and for ,you ?

Hello guys, i'm new to linux world and arch linux.
I'm having a little problem doing a full system upgrade. There is a corrupted file in catalyst repo, as you can see:
checking package integrity...
:: File xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix-1.9.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted.
There is a real problem with this file in the repo? Tried to download it tons of times and get the same message.
Thanks!

You can use another xorg package in extra repository i think

@nickneo: yes, thanks, this package really was corrupted, it should be fine now.
+ just like Gillian00 said - package xorg-server from extra should be fine, use xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix only if you got problems with original xorg-server

Guess what?
There's new API/ABI inside upcoming xorg-server 1.10 which will be released in February - yes, again...
So... you know... no support until new ubuntu release - the good thing is that we don't need to wait too long - just til April.

Hopefully, considering the release in February and some staging time for xorg-server in [testing], we'll have to wait less than a month...

Hello, I am new in archlinux. I switched from ubuntu due to blackscreens (cant start x-window) in each update...
I am trying to install privative catalyst but still impossible... I Had to boot from a USB and uninstall it because couldn't start session... I have a RADEON 5770 card and I read in archwiki that I should install catalyst but after 10 tries I can't...
I found this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/641890 but doesn't work or maybe I did something wrong...
I have X-ORG 1.9 from repositories, trying to install catalyst from AUR it said me that had to uninstall xorg-server I will try it again this time installing catalyst from AUR and uninstalling the xorg-server... Hope it will not be a lost of time again...
What should I do if it does not work??
Thanks in advance and apologies for my bad english.
Greetings.
Edit: WTF Finally it seems working... I install driver from AUR, then install, xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix, and modify xorg.conf like ArchWiki says... And IT IS WORKING!!!
Before I had the problem that i was using Belgium mirror... When changed to germany mirror my system founds new updates...
Your posts gave me power for continue trying it. Thanks

Thanks.
This is ofcourse FirePro/GL/MV card driver, The new thing over last stable pro driver is xserver 1.9 support .
The funny part about this driver is that it differs in 3 files over catalyst 10.12 , exactly those files from /etc/ati directory: amdpcsdb.default, control and signature
Pro driver will not work on Radeon card (well... untill you will switch control file with this one from catalyst 10.12, but ofcourse using pro driver on radeon is senseless).
+ i made AUR's package for firepro owners: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=45765

/usr/share/ati/build_mod/PKGBUILD
PKGEXT='.pkg'
Why? Makepkg from pacman-git can't create a package with that. Needs to be a valid archive like .pkg.tar.xz.
Also needs the extension:
/usr/bin/catalyst_build_module
echo -e '\E[37;44m'"\033[1mIf it's asking for password - type YOUR password\033[0m"
sudo /usr/bin/pacman -Ud ${workdir}/catalyst-${kernver}-${catver}-$(uname -m).pkg.tar.xz || return 1
else
echo -e '\E[37;44m'"\033[1mIf it's asking for password - type root password\033[0m"
su - root -c "/usr/bin/pacman -Ud ${workdir}/catalyst-${kernver}-${catver}-$(uname -m).pkg.tar.xz" || return 1

/usr/share/ati/build_mod/PKGBUILD
PKGEXT='.pkg'
Why?
Because i like it it's the fastest method, and we really don't need any kind of taring or compressing a package created in /tmp directory which will be immediately removed by catalyst_build_module script just after installation...
But since you are telling that pacman-git isn't supporting it (why? why? why?!) i will ofcourse have to change it. I've just subscribed into pacman-dev to maybe avoid this kind of situation in the future. Although right now im not gonna use pacman-git, because i rly need a working system atm .
So i got a request to you Cdh: can you please test will it work with:
PKGEXT='.pkg.tar'
?
If it's not working i will use .pkg.tar.gz because xz is not needed here and rly slow
