Hi all.
I am trying to configure my ZTE MF110 3G (probably CDMA?) USB modem in Arch 64bit to connect to the Romanian RDS Digi Net Mobil service. I have got it to work in Windows XP, Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.04... but not in Arch. In Ubuntu, I just had to plug it in, wait for it to initialize and then set up the Mobile Broadband connection in Network Manager.
In Arch, it does not work. I have installed usb_modeswitch and the modem mode is switched on as shown by
lsusb | grep ONDA
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 19d2:0016 ONDA Communication S.p.A.
However, in the Network Manager setup dialog I do not get the option to select the modem in the drop down menu... unlike in Ubuntu. I have even tried waiting 30-40 mins in case the modem takes time to initialize...
What am I doing wrong?
P.S. the methods using wvdial do not seem to be feasible as I do not know what number to dial, username, password, etc. It is all on the SIM card and should just connect.

I have same usb modem from RDS (I am romanian too) and it works out of the box with networkmanager-applet&usb_modeswich&modemmanager installed.
Install modemmanager and after restart see if works.
Ps.
Nu mai da "bump" ca se supara lumea pe tine.

Poti pune intrebari si pe www.archlinux.ro?

I let this go for a while and came back to it yesterday... and I solved it.
I am now running KDE 4.5 and I tried many different things over a period of time. So if I miss some important info, sorry. Here is basically what I did.
- Install the usb_modeswitch and modemmanager packages
- Configure a GSM Mobile Broadband connection in Network Manager with; Number to dial *99#, APN = internet, Type = 3G (UMTS/HSPA)
In Ubuntu the ISP settings were already in Network Manager. I just had to choose my ISP Am I missing something here?
@mits: mersi de ajutor

yep, you have to install usb_modeswitch with modemmanager
I am wondering why the modemmanager is not depending on usb_modeswitch......

Hi drsjlazar, thanks for public the fix, I had the same problem. However, for some people doesn't work use modemmanager because this aplications perhaps has a bug (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=261738). In my case, before of configurate the number to dial, APN and conection type, does crash the aplication. For this people, the other solution is use wvdial and add the provider info manually https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/USB_3G_Modem.
