Can't do "system configure" process when installing Arch

Hi

I am new to Arch,I ran into a problem when I am tring to install the latest Archlinux 2010-05(339M) on my third hard disk by CD-ROM.

Everthing goes fine until the 7th step--configure system. When I choose vi to open the /etc/rc.conf,it actually open the /mnt/etc/rc.conf,and the worse situation is:thers's nothing in the file, completly blank.I cheked other files such as /etc/fstab and /etc/hosts,the same situation. And I cannot change my root password and install GRUB neither.I don't know what to do next.Is this an Arch's bug or my computer's problem?Does anybody met that problem before?

Thanks for any help.

Did you check the checksum before burning it? Did you try burning it again? Do you use exotic hardware?

Re: Can't do "system configure" process when installing Arch

Thank you for your replay.

The checksum is OK.
I didn't try.The size of the burned CD is 322M,the same as when I use Virtual Driver to open it,but the original .iso file's size is 324M.Now I plan to burn it again to test.
I don't know if I used the exotic hardware or not,but I think the hardware is very standard and common.
I used virtualbox to install it serverl times,1-2 times emerge the same situation, other times it works fine.

I have the same problem. I am trying to install Arch onto a VirtualBox VM, but when I get to the configuration step, all of the configuration files are blank, and the directory /mnt/etc does not exist.

I had this exact same problem today installing Arch in VirtualBox.  For me, it was related to the mirror I chose, and to the failed download of some packages from [core].  Reinstalling using a reliable mirror solved this completely.
