BCM4315 not working with WEP [SOLVED]

Hey there!

I already tried using the wl and the b43 drivers and neither will let me connect with WEP.
The info I found through googling points to an obvious solution> use WPA, thing is I dont admin the router and the person who does isnt around to change it, so I really need to connect with WEP.

Im sure about the password, and the drivers are correct because I can connect to unprotected/WPA.

Is the driver even capable of WEP?
In the meantime Ill try to hand pastebin some logs/dmesg, although most of the dont sow anything extraordinary.

Edit: forgot to say that Im using the kernel 2.6.37

SOLVED: using wpa_supplicant manually solved the problem
