Given the popularity of the linux-ck package, I have followed nous' lead and created an unofficial repo containing precompiled binary versions of the linux-ck and related packages for community use. I wrote a wiki article that has instructions, available packages, etc. Note that the repo contains a generic package and many CPU-specific optimized packages! Please read the wiki page linked below for more details.

+1, Currently using -pf kernel, but I only really want the -ck patchset and maybe bfq. 64-bit atom packages would be greatly appreciated here.

I obviously don't have a problem with this, but I wont be using it.

I like having my custom .config, so I'll always prefer to build the package myself.

@pogeymanz - right, the repo would only contain the ARCH defaults except with the ck1 patchset enabled.

Got it - I'll add a kernel26-ck-atom for i686. Working on the bash script now to batch compile these guys. Ran into a little snag with sed but I think I'm around it now. I'll post after I've tested the various flavors on several machines. Later today hopefully.

OK! I got it I think. I have built up the following:

x86_64: generic, atom, core2, nvidia-ck
i686: generic, k7, p4, atom, nvidia-ck

I tested the k7, atom (x86_64), generic (x86_64), and core2 (x86_64) and everything seems fine - installs makes images, boots, etc. I'd like to have a few more peeps give them a try before I post the server to the entire community (just in case I f*ck-up something). If you're interested, please shoot me an email and I'll forward the repo info to you. If a few other people can verify that everything is okay, I will post here in the forums for all to use.

just out of curiosity, is the default config 1000 Hz?
I'm asking b/c I think you need a multiple of 1000 Hz for virtualbox
What do you guys find works well?

The ARCH defaults are tickless (dynamic ticks) and 300 Hz. I use them w/ vbox just fine... dunno where you got that 1000 Hz advice

You can check it via:

zcat /proc/config.gz > config

Then inspect the config in an editor. You can always build it yourself with whatever options...

Tested out your i686 kernel26-ck and kernel26-ck-atom packages, without any problems.

Thanks for putting this up, didn't mind the compiling and stripping things out, but having I'll probably keep using the more generic package if it's available.

I agree, great idea. Since the beginning, I've wanted just -ARCH plus ck patches. I'll don't even need the {nvidia,lirc}-ck (been just rebuilding nvidia-beta and repo's lirc for now, works fine), but no worries.

Let me know if you want any help on the bash .

@brisbin - I think I got it actually.... my main concern is whether or not the packages are sound (I believe that they are). Please install the right package for your hardware and let me know.

Atom (x86_64) is working nicely for me.

The only hitch was eth1 changing to wlan0, which confused me for a minute or two (not sure why - brcm80211 instead of wl, maybe?)
