Hi
Recently I've installed KDE and completely removed my previous installation of GNOME. Since then everything worked fine except for music playback. Actually it works but not as it should. I can't playback music when I run another application which involves sound playback before Amarok. For example, Chromium, TuxGuitar, etc. However, when I open Amarok first everything works fine until I run one of those applications. It keeps playing music but I have to let it go through the songs without changing the track in the middle of another. I think it might be something with Phonon. Also I removed GStreamer that remained installed.
I've thinking of lots of alternatives but I can't get it to work for example I tried another player but same thing happened. Next I'll try phonon-git package but not now.
Looking forward a suggestion and thanks in advance

Do you have phonon-gstreamer and the gstreamer plugins? I don't use amarok so I can't tell you but people have installed the phonon-vlc backend

I'll try that and later post the results
EDIT: Works fine. I'm using the VLC motor instead of Xine. Thanks

I must admit I still have no idea why that works but sometimes it's better to appreciate that it does in the short term

Having a similar problem with Audacious. Had the same problem with MPD/Sonata. However, did not have that problem with Deadbeef.
On track change it continues to play music but with a very loud obnoxious noise in the background. The noise is static per song but is different from song to song. Won't stop that noise until all sound-playing applications have been closed.
It's an odd one...
Any ideas what would "fix it" for Audacious? Forced to get Qt just for phonon-gstreamer? And would that even work?

Phonon is the multimedia backend for KDE. If you're not using KDE, it won't do you any good. Since this thread specifically applied to Amarok, you might have better luck starting a new thread.
