new thunar, can't see removable devices

After the thunar upgrade I cannot see my ipod or removable thumb drive in the left hand panel of thunar. Can't mount them because of this.

pacman -Si gvfs

thunar-volman: error while loading shared libraries: libexo-hal-0.3.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

That error shows up when I run thunar from a CL and then plug in a thumb drive.

@beepressure, @Doehni: did you also install "gvfs-afc" and rebooted your box? I couldn't see thumbdrives as well, but after installing gvfs and gvfs-afc I can do it again!

Tried that. Did not work at all.

Ditto here.

Why the recommendation to install gvfs and gvfs-afs? I don't see them the depends or opt depends. (Besides, I tried it and it doesn't make any difference.)

gvfs is optdepends for Thunar not the volman plugin.

Thanks. I see it now. But still no automounting after installing gvfs and gvfs-afc (and rebooting, restarting hal, dbus, etc.).

In fact, neither CDs nor usb drives appear in the thunar side panel. I suppose it's on to pcmanfm-git. smile

What if you run "dbus-launch thunar"?

Re: new thunar, can't see removable devices

Same problem here with same errors (see Doehni's post).

If I launch it with : dbus-launch thunar, it works. When I plug an USB stick, it gets mounted. I still get the first 3 errors, but not the last one.
A problem while using dbus-launch thunar : It takes more than 20 seconds for thunar to open sad

Re: new thunar, can't see removable devices

You can use in your ~/.xinitrc

exec dbus-launch ck-launch-session startxfce4

Another problem is that after umounting the device gets removed from the sidebar, so to remount you have to plug out and in...

Re: new thunar, can't see removable devices

Using dbus-launch in .xinitrc is better. The long delay at launching thunar happens only the 1st time. Note that the same thing happens if I use pcmanfm.
Using dbus-launch uses more memory.
The good news is that I can probably get rid of hal...

This is indeed a problem. I imagine this is someone's idea of a feature. wink

That said, using dbus-launch does allow for automounting.

I must say, these constant changes in dbus, udisks, etc. are by far the most disruptive aspect of upgrading.

For me, the problems persist, also after installation of gvfs-afs and restart...

I don't have any automount rule in udev, because I'd like to mount the device by clicking on it in the sidebar.
These are the udev rules I have:

10-cups-usb.rules
75-cd-aliases-generator.rules.optional
75-persistent-net-generator.rules.optional
91-local.rules

The local.rules is for my printer/scanner.

Edit: My user is in the storage group and I opened thunar with 'dbus-launch thunar'

@eren - do you have gvfs installed? Its needed for Trash support.

Re: new thunar, can't see removable devices

To continue on my post above:
On my machine, the long time it takes for thunar to start is due to smbnetfs daemon. When I have time, I'll try to play with smbnetfs options to try to get rid of this delay.

Isn't it better to replace hal with dbus in rc.conf and remove dbus-launch from .xinitrc?

Right, but I kinda miss the point of using xfce over gnome, since gvfs pulls lots of gnome deps...
