Plymouth fails on boot-up (Intel GMA 3150)

Hi there!
I just installed plymouth from the AUR. madepkg the package, pacman -U'd it, setup /etc/mkinitcpio.conf as per the wiki, selected a theme, checked the theme from the command line, mkinitcpio'd, set up /etc/rc.local to kill plymouth and there I am:

Plymouth gets shown at shutdown, but not at boot-up:

plymouth unexpectedly disconnected from boot status daemon

What am I missing? By the way: is there a way to check whether I'm using KMS? I realize it takes some one or two seconds to switch to TTY1 from X. Isn't this supposed to be instantaneously?

Best wishes,
Rufus

I just thought that I'd add that I have the same problem myself.
