solr vs sphinx

Anyone have an informed opinion on using solr vs sphinx?

Right now I am using sphinx, and it seems to be working quite well. However, needing to reindex the entire dataset is a bit of a drag. Luckily the dataset is relatively small, so it doesn't take very long at all.

I haven't used solr yet, because I am hesitant to create a dependency upon java (no part of the stack currently uses java), because it isn't quite as portable as sphinx -- which I find hilarious given that java is a vm...but that is here nor there.

Looking for feedback and experiences using solr and sphinx.

thanks.

Re: solr vs sphinx

I don't necessarily have an "informed" opinion, but I did read this nifty blog post comparing the two. tongue
