Sony Vaio Function key sound not working

Hi,

I am using Arch Linux with kernel 2.6.36 on my sony vaio (VPCEB1MOE). I couldn't get my function keys for volume and mute working.
All others function keys are working after some tweaking. In fact the sound keys are not even detected on acpi_listen. But this works perfectly on Ubuntu 10.10. Any advice please?

Thanks,
R

Re: Sony Vaio Function key sound not working

On my netbook, acer aspire one 721 my fn sound key doesn't get displayed using acpi_listen.  Try using xev it works for me there.

KeyRelease event, serial 40, synthetic NO, window 0x2600001,
    root 0xa7, subw 0x0, time 1743725, (132,-347), root:(726,217),
    state 0x0, keycode 122 (keysym 0x1008ff11, XF86AudioLowerVolume), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
    XFilterEvent returns: False

What DE or WM are you using?

Thanks whitethorn.
Currently I am using Openbox and Slim. I tried LXDE and Enlightment. It is not working on any of those.

Re: Sony Vaio Function key sound not working

Are you running HAL?

I have a Sony Vaio and had to add an extra line to HAL so that it knew my laptops capabilities and also a line to xorg.conf to make it properly recognise the multitouch abilities of the touchpad.
Afraid I can't be of much more help as I don't remember the files or steps that I took however I obtained all the info I needed from various wikis (Arch, Ubuntu, Gentoo etc) and search engines (by searching both for vaio info and any errors that may have appeared in the console)

Try reading the topic, and answering to questions asked?

Problems solved.

Mute, Vol-, Vol+: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ex … ys_in_Xorg
(I'm using LXDE, so I followed the part about OpenBox)

Brightness Keys:
Changing brightness didn't work out of the box for my laptop model, even via Terminal, so I followed this in order to get it working..

and this to make Fn F5/F6 keys control brightness:
