Installing ArchLinux 64bit on the Intel SandyBridge architecture

Hello!

Have anyone tested installing Arch on a SandyBridge motherboard?

I have just ordered the following for my workstation:

ASUS P8P67 EVO
Intel Core i5 2500k
ASUS GeForce GTX 460 768MB PhysX CUDA

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a … inux&num=1
http://blogs.intel.com/technology/2011/ … t_will.php

As it seems to me, the biggest challenge is the graphics. I will avoid this, I hope, by using a dedicated GPU card.

Have anyone here done it, and have some experience?

I'm thinking it'll be you sharing experiences with others, not the other way around.

Graphics aren't a problem actually, kernel 2.6.37 is out, as is mesa 7.10 and intel 2.14. Those are the components you need. It's only a problem for non-rolling release distros, which won't get those components for a few months still.

Yes, that is what I thought, since most of the issues involved using Ububtu.

I will be getting the parts Monday or Tuesday, so I'll see then.

Yes I saw that thread. Have not had time yet to read trough it to fully understand the BIOS issue.

Re: Installing ArchLinux 64bit on the Intel SandyBridge architecture

First impressions.

Have installed the latest x64 Arch from an usbpen.
No issues so far. Just started the machine, from the usbpen and installed ArchLinux. Rebooted and was up and running.
The Realtek gigabit network adapter is automatically recognized and working out of the box. At the moment I have not installed xorg yet.

Time to boot from Grub to login is about 15sec.

Next thing will be to get xorg up and running.

EDIT: No issues there either. Installed xorg and the Nvidia drivers. Rebooted and started X. Fluxbox started without any problems. No xorg.conf needed, native resolution detected correctly.

Re: Installing ArchLinux 64bit on the Intel SandyBridge architecture

Hello,

I installed arch on a i7-2630QM &  Intel HD Graphics 3000 with no much problem.
I am using the stables packages (Kernel 2.6.36, mesa 7.9 & xf86-video-intel 2.13) and the only bug I have is that when I activate Kwin on Kde, X freeze. But beside that, the performance is pretty good overall.

I tried the testing packages, but the result was still quite buggy.
