Gimp or SANE scanning over network (Wired/Wireless) help...

I found the thread below about an Epson AIO and was looking to get help fitting the information to my situation with a Canon MG5220 AIO so that I can scan documents and pictures over my wireless network connection.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1400872

any help is welcome and appreciated.  Googling for the last couple of hours brought me this single link that seems to actually address what I'm looking to do.  If anyone can provide other links for me to research, I'd appreciate them.  Thanks in advance!

See also http://penguin-breeder.org/sane/saned/

You need it when network scanning. There is also the commercial Turboprint package.

ok, so the missing element here is sane-backends... which is not in the main pkgs or AUR... am I the first person who's attempted to connect a printer via the network? from what I can tell, this seems like a necessity for ANY networked scanner.

I think your machine has a different model number in USA and Europe. Try to find the euronumber and look for that one.

does what you're saying work around needing sane-backends?
