wireless acer 1360 howto?

I have installed arch on my acer aspire 1363 and all works ok except for my wireless card, I don't even see it when I type lspci, if I boot with knoppix I can see it in the list, I have no idea what to do, perhaps someone with the same laptop/wireless card knows what to do?
It's a mini-pci acer ipn2200 wlancard.

I have gotten a bit further, I found ipw2200.sourceforge.net and did all that was said there, but when I try to modprobe ipw2200 it says error invalid module format.

Re: wireless acer 1360 howto?

Thanks, I didn't know there was a package.

Still after doing the pacman and modprobe still the same error; perhaps because I already made some weird modules with the standard installer. I'm gonna reinstall, system only runs a day so I don't mind redoing it. Don't I need some kind of wireless profile cause I always had a messag that no etc/rc.d/wireless existed or something like it. Reinstalling on my laptop now. Luckely it's done within an hour.

Story goes on, I reinstalled arch, installed the ipw2200 with pacman, also did the wlan-ng26 but when I modprobe ipw2200 it says module not found, I added eth1 to rc.conf but I can't see a wireless connection with iwconfig.

Re: wireless acer 1360 howto?

I don't know if this will help you but it might be worth trying.

I struggled with a wireless card on Amilo Pro for half a year until it started to work this morning. A few things I have noticed:

1. The module ipw2200 doesn't allways make depmod as last command. depmod is the command that updates the lists of modules that can be loaded.

2. The last weeks struggle I found out was because I had kernel 2.6.10 and ipw2200 (latest issue) loaded in directory /lib/modules/kernel/2.6.11/...   i.e. latest kernel was supposed. I decided to update to latest kernel and then after reinstall of ipw2200 and making depmod I could load the right one.

3. There might be a switch turning on and off the radio in the card. Either it is a software-switch and in that case you will need to install software to turn radio on. If it is a hardware switch I suppose you could get the result that the card is not shown in lspci since it will not get any power...

4. The ipw2200 depends on loading firmware. This loading is dependent of udf and hotplug. One needs latest updates of those in order to get it to work. Also hotplug needs to start in daemons in rc.conf

Good luck!  smile
