I know that KDM settings (System Settings > Login screen) can be changed by root. Well, even when running "kdesu systemsettings", I see that on the top
You are not allowed to save the configuration
and when I press Apply, I can't apply the settings. Does anybody know what I should do ?

Strange..
I just open my System Settings as normal user and press apply when i'm ready.
Then i give my root password and thats it.
I assume that you have done it this way?

Yes, I did :S

I still have that problem even with KDE 4.6...

Edit a freshly installed /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc, it includes instructions for every setting. The GUI way has always been very unpredictable for me too.

Well, that isn't exactly the issue. The main issue is that I can't edit any section of System Settings as root (through kdesu) or with Polkit (being authorised automatically when trying to "Apply" any settings as a user)
