Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

Interestingly, "gnomeuser" on Ubuntu forums reports that this kernel crashes when using a Ralink rt73 USB WiFi adapter, and this is exactly what I have! http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613049&page=2
What I noticed is that after a crash, when restarting, I need to replug my adapter to make it work. I'll try to see if this is linked by removing the adapter. Unfortunately, I cannot use the internet without my adapter (too far away from the router and the phone socket...)

Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

I have tried yesterday to use 2.6.37 with and without the USB Wifi plugged in, and indeed, machine locks with it, however system (so far) is stable without. I'll try to confirm this by replacing the internet access with wired ethernet, but I think I am closer to identifying the issue, which is specific to 2.6.37 kernels. I did a search on 2.6.37 and rt2501/rt73 and found this bug report on Launchpad, reporting the same issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/673682
The only difference is that I have no messages in the log file. Maybe the verbosity is different? I am going to fill a bug report.

Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

OK, I have tested this kernel with wired ethernet, no crash. The issue is specific to my USB Wifi adapter rt2501/rt73.

Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

Anyone had success suspending to-ram systems with SATA AHCI?

It fails on 2.6.34.7 (opensuse) and 2.6.36.3 (arch). There is a patch for 2.6.34.8 (https://lists.linux-foundation.org/pipe … 27962.html), but none for 2.6.36.3. What about 2.6.37?

Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

zebulon, you might wanna try the new nvidia beta 270.x. My system is running without any problem since several hours with all the latest and greatest Arch packages and the new nvidia beta. More info here.

Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

shemz: I had identified the issue being linked to my Wifi adapter (see above). Thanks anyway, I'll try it.

Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

Do anybody know, when the new kernel hits the core repo?

Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

I am experiencing this issue http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-wire … 63229.html except that my intel i3 processor can't reach C3 state while it doesn't have C4 state.
As a result i get higher power usage.

Grab it from testing if you can't wait.
Of course, there is a reason that it's not in core yet, so there is a slight change of breakage.

I only want to install the kernel form testing. Does this work?

Yes. Activate the testing repository, refresh the packages and install only the kernel.

No, activating [testing] is not required. Just download kernel26 manually and do pacman -U kernel26-....pkg.tar.xz.

Re: Kernel 2.6.37 Released

Does anybody else have troubles with resume? My laptop failed to resume (from suspend to RAM) and I had to hard-reboot it. And here I thought they figured it out already...
That's with Pentium-M/i915GM/ICH6
