Kernel Panic with b44 eth-driver (Kernel 2.6.37) | Dell Vostro 1500

Hey,

I have a problem with my network card (b44 driver). It's almost the same problem like here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=668088

I think it's a common Dell problem.

I have taken a picture of the panic-log:

The workaround for this issue is to block the module !b44 in the /etc/rc.conf (-> network card doesn't work anymore).
I'm using WLAN at the moment, but later on I have to use the ethernet again, so a quick solution would be fine.

Any ideas?

Thx.

I have exactly the same problem.
I also have a Dell Vostro.
The problem seems to concern all those who have a Dell laptop with a Broadcom card

Ah, I forgot to mention if you downgrade the kernel to 2.6.36 (and nvidia of course), everything will work fine!

Same here, on a Vostro 1500. Until this is resolved upstream, I included the temporary fix posted here in kernel26-pf. The corresponding kernel26-pf-core2-2.6.37 prebuilt package is being compiled right now and should hit the [pfkernel] repo shortly.

[pfkernel]
# Kernel packages: generic i686 and x86_64, optimized P3, P4, K7, Atom, Pentium-M, K8, Core2
# nvidia-pf, squid3, arora-git, nvidia-utils-beta
