Thanks for all your effort on the ThinkPad x100e write up on the wiki. It was helpful.

I'm want to get my wifi up on my x100e, but I can't access your notes on Google Docs because "This document is not published." Any possibility of fixing that please? I haven't seen anything else on Arch BBS about getting wifi running, outside of compiling the driver from Realtek, but apparently that alone is problematic.

Jelso, sorry about that but thanks for letting me know it wasn't showing up. Probably a change I made to either authentication or service level on my Google Apps account. For the time being, here's a link to a PDF snapshot. I'm still working on this so this will end up being out of date, but it's better than not being online at all...

Also, while the realtek instructions I include in the document work I've switched to the Intel 5100 as it supports 5ghz. Much happier with it in general. It's cheap on ebay.

Ok, it's back up and I've added in both a working acpi handler.sh script as well as my actkbd. Between these two, almost all function keys are configured and functional.

ati hd 3200 open source vs fglrx drivers..

has anyone tried both of these?

ive found out the fglrx driver drops about 10C of the laptop's temp.. which is too bad, cause id rather use the open source drivers.

Just so you know:

Having compared the X100e's Geekbench scores with other MV-40 systems, we suspected something was causing this machine to underperform. Sure enough, when we updated the existing BIOS (v1.04) to the latest available version (v1.10) and retested, the ThinkPad X100e scored a far healthier 1196. The stock BIOS had dragged down scores in all four of the performance categories Geekbench tests for; meanwhile battery performance has also increased slightly, up to 3.5hrs on average. The moral of the story is to make sure your computer is up to date with its drivers, as these can significantly affect performance.

I'm planning on buying this model, probably today. Wanna use it with a simple Arch+Openbox just for programming, I guess it'll be awesome for it.

if you plan to use it on your lap.. id stay away from it..

the back of netbook gets really hot.

Undervolting didn't help? I want to use it in my lap.

I guess I have no choice since the X100e is the same price as the Lenovo S10 here in Brasil, I won't find another notebook that is so nice as this one, works good on linux and is cheap.

I really want it just for programming, planning on installing just Openbox, Chrome and Gedit, no Flash, no codecs and so on. I have a good desktop and a MSI CR400 for other things.

no it didnt.
i have it undervolted to the limit.

0.6v at 800mhz
0.8v at 1600mhz

lower settings will hang the system.

using the closed source ati drivers helped a lot too. but it still feels quite hot. same thing under windows xp and windows 7.

Do you think it'll be hot even if I'm just using gedit for coding and chrome for documentation?

If that's the case maybe I'll just use my MSI instead.

yes it will.

computer running idle gets really hot.

and remember, after coding, there is compiling.. the cpu temp gets past the 70C while compiling.

So, if you would buy a notebook now you wouldn't take this Thinkpad?

it was given to me at my job. we have about 20 of these. and even if they are ok for a netbook. people complain a lot about the heat.

I've stuck with the radeon drivers which are, I believe, the most up to date of the open source options (vs the actual radeonhd drivers).

Haven't tried the fglrx, but I'm very happy with the radeon performance. That being said, I'm not using this for anything resembling 3D.

What temps are you getting with/without fglrx?

Worth checking out the new version of the x100e, the x120e, which claims to be both cooler and longer batt life off the same 6 cell.

But the x120e was recently released, it'll take from 6 to 12 months to be released here in Brasil, and when it gets here it'll be at least the same price the x100e was when released (maybe more): R$2000,00, the x100e is now R$899,00 and that's one of the cheapest notebooks/netbooks today in Brasil, I guess it's worth it. I'm buying it now and when I find the x120e in the same price I sell the x100e and buy the x120e.

hmmm,since heat is all i can complain about, i guess it really IS worth checking out might even be my personal notebook replacement.

I just read this article about the AMD Fusion E-350, the processor that the Thinkpad x120e will use and I gotta say I'm impressed, it consumes a lot less than an equivalent Atom processor and do better in a lot of aspects. Thinkpad x120e is going to be an awesome little computer.

Yes, I'm happy with my x100e but definitely will look to the 120 as it's replacement at some point.

Now if I could just get a pixel qi screen for it as a replacement, I'd be set.
