sansa fuze not showing up

I have a Sansa Fuze v2.  I registers in /var/log/messages.log , but not when I use lsusb, and also not in thunar.
One other odd thing, but not necessarily a problem is when I watch

tail -f /var/log/messages.log

I plug in the fuze and it registers as low speed USB.  When I hold the left scroll wheel while plugging it in, it goes to high speed USB.
It worked for a week after I got it, so I don't think it's the cable.  I already tried another one.

Does it work on another PC? Maybe try a windows based one? Maybe you can switch modes (mass storage or libmtp)?

Set USB Mode to MSC.

Settings / Sytem Settings / USB Mode / MSC
