[XFCE] Change Screen Resolution

I just recently installed XFCE in my Arch, and I tried it out, but it's stuck at 1024x768 resolution, while my Gateway NV53 is 1366x768.  It's supposed to use a ATI Catalyst graphics driver, but I don't really want to install it because I installed Arch on a USB drive and will probably be running it on different computers with different graphics cards, and I don't really want to be taking up extra space.

I booted up XFCE, and went to display settings, but the only option was 1024x768 with a 0.00 refresh rate, weird.

I tried editing display.xml in ~/.config/xfce4/xfconfig/xfce-perchannel-xml/ , to 1366x768 with no avail, and there's no xorg.conf in /etc/X11/.

My old Ubuntu installaton could display Gnome at 1366x768 without extra drivers, but I thought Xfce could too?

How do I get it to display in the native 1366x768 resolution?
and if I can't, how do I install ATI Catalyst drivers?

Also, is there any way to go back to the terminal after running startxfce4?  when I press logout, it just goes to a black screen with a blinking line, but I can't type, and have to force shutdown it by the power button.

Thanks,
Vapour

So what drivers are you using atm? If vesa, 1024x768 is what you'll get.

Something may be wrong here. What happens if you switch to other consoles, e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F2?

Your first stop is Xorg's log. Check it, disect it.

This belongs in the Newbie corner.

I suppose none, as I didn't install any..
Same thing when I switch to other consoles, black screen with white blinking line, like I'm supposed to type, but I can't.  I should mention that its bigger than when I first boot up, too, I think it stays at 1024x768.

How do I do that?

And okay, sorry.

Just wondering, if I install all three drivers, ati, nvidia, and intel, will it choose the correct one on startup, even when switching between computers?
