I have add the dbus and hal in the rc.conf, but still have the error message,
does any one can help me?

Hi, I have the same problem with my laptop (Asus M2400N). This is utterly strange, as I have never had d-bus and hal in my rc.conf file. Hotplug was there by default so I would expect it to be working. Anyway - I am getting exactly the same messages in my error log.
Other users adviced me to add d-bus and hal before hotplug (in this order!), but I don't want to do so unless I know what each of them does.
After a further investigation into the matter, I found out that even setting up the variable DEVPATH manually doesn't help, as there are many more variables missing. It is also strange that hotplug works fine for all the USB mice, although the daemon obviously failed... What a strange matter!

Just start hal and dbus before hotplug in /etc/rc.conf . It seems to work here
Out / Gone
Mirgrating all my machines off ArchLinux . No longer part of the ArchLinux community / users .
Done. Goodbye.

Will try that, thx. I got confused by the fact that hotplug was included in rc.conf in the base install, eve before d-bus and hal could be run. I therefore thought that these were two independent (and perhaps incompatible) parts of the system.
Is there any relation between Udev, hal and hotplug? The only thing I know is that the older daemon to maintain /dev was called devfs. (I enabled Udev right after setting up Arch.) Perhaps devfs uses a different kind of hotpug which doesn't coopearte with d-bus and hal. That might be the reason why hal and d-bus weren't included in the default rc.conf. Am I right?

OK, I inserted d-bus and hal before hotplug, they both start flawlessly, but I still get this in the error log:

That is 23 seconds of delay at boot time! Something's really wrong here.

Were you ever able to find the cause for this error? I also have the same log and the hotplug module takes about 10secs to load every boot

If you don't use it anyway, then just uninstall hal, or make the hal hotplug scripts non-executable (chmod -x /etc/hotplug/*/*hal* or wherever it is).
Offline
or just dont bootup hotplug on boot and load modules yourself.
