execute script after X failed login attempts

Hi,

For security purposes I think this would come really handy. but I haven't found a single thread about this in the arch forums specifically. There is a thread on ubuntu which involves modifying the /etc/pam.d/common-auth file but I can't find it in my system. I'm not using any login managers or desktop environments if anyone needs to know.

Thanks in advance.

Re: execute script after X failed login attempts

shameless bump.

Anyone? I just want to know whats the most efficient way to do it before I start to possibly making some  shameful script that loops every second to check for some log and whatnot.

Maybe installing pam

I'm no linux guru, but I'm assuming if it's under /etc/pam.d/ then you're going to need pam. Try reading and googling up on configuring pam to do what you're asking.

Re: execute script after X failed login attempts

/etc/pam.d/common-auth exists only to be included in other, service-specific PAM files, so one can easily change auth mechanisms for all/majority services at once. You don't have it, so probably you have fully separate PAM files, without common include; so you should just apply those common-auth advices to all services you are going to modify. As always with PAM -- BE CAUTIOUS. Especially if your machine sits a few hundred km away wink
