latest Amarok wiped my collection

Had 2.4.0-1 for about a week and the other day there was an upgrade to 2.4.0-2

After installing this, Amarok had nothing in the collection and I cannot build one. It starts to scan and when it's finished there is nothing.

What changed?

Re: latest Amarok wiped my collection

This is a know bug (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=265567). I discovered it by chance in last.fm, in amarok's user group. If you happen to have a backup, please use it and delete amarokrc before start amarok. It seems to solve it.

But if you're like me, you don't have a backup and will have to repopulate your collection.

Is this the price you risk paying by using a rolling release distribution ?

Because I would be totally pissed.

I think you misunderstand--well, either that or you get pissed really easily.  Amarok just deletes the music library database, and track ratings and play counts are erased.  The ratings and play counts can be restored by replacing the current file with a backup file, and the music library doesn't get touched. Personally, I've never payed any attention to play counts and track ratings, since I don't need my music player to tell me what I like.

Besides that, this issue was experience by some people who upgraded amarok at will, regardless of the distribution.

Re: latest Amarok wiped my collection

My understanding was that Amarok wiped his music collection.

Not that there was a problem with the music entries from the playlist.

Re: latest Amarok wiped my collection

To be fair, my one gripe with Amarok has always been that one can't selectively remove tracks from Amarok's database.  Remove a track from the Amarok list, and it deletes in from the hard drive.  Whoever thought this was a good idea must've been drunk at the time, since it forces a person to spend time tagging every music file before sticking it in their ~/Music folder, lest the collection become a jumbled mess.  In any case, I still like Amarok but don't use it anymore myself.

Are you serious? This is insane. Last time I removed something it was playlists, and I thought "this must be yet another bug" when I noticed they dissapeared froml the file-system. You find a dozen a week anyway. Way to turn the best audio player ever into crap software. After mysql 5.5 update my Amarok didn't lose the collection, because it doesn't even start it segfaults... and I still haven't found a solution.

You need to install an RTFM interface.
