I used the guide at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wiimote.
wminput either prints "Bluetooth device inquiry error" or waits forever. In the second case Wiimote doesn't respond to 1+2 anymore until I kill wminput or hold the power button, which disconnects the device and prints some error messages in the console.
hcitool detects the device successfully, wmgui freezes when attempting to connect. The Wiimote works fine on Windows, so it's not a hardware problem.
