Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

When I updated some days ago, nvidia-ck would always be "corrupted", downloading from the mirror and installing locally worked.

Done... please give it a try and let me know.  I think the problem was with the index file, not the package.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

I found a patch for K10 processors. Now called F10h.

http://groups.google.com/group/linux.ke … 9619?pli=1

It seems to be just for x86 arch just in case u wanna give it a try. I'll stick to generic cause i use x86_64 version.

BTW graysky i sent u a message (i guess is by e-mail in bbs) related to modprobed, localmodconfig and kernel26-ck. I dont know if you read it and if you prefer me to open a thread here.

Cheers

@VS - You're welcome to patch your own with whatever but I'm not planning to mod the PKGBUILD or packages.  I didn't get any email from the bbs.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the readout for my CPU temperature monitor is no longer working.  The widget provided with LXDE always reads "NA".  However, temperature readouts work just fine in GKrellm.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

I have some problem with nvidia-ck-core2 driver. After install all needed packages Xorg not start. Packages versions:

$ pacman -Qs core2
local/kernel26-ck-core2 2.6.37-5 (ck-core2)
ARCH kernel with Brain Fuck Scheduler v0.363 plus other goodies in ck1 patch set. Intel Core2/Newer Xeon optimized.
local/kernel26-ck-core2-headers 2.6.37-5 (ck-core2)
Header files and scripts to build modules for kernel26-ck. Intel Core2/Newer Xeon optimized.
local/nvidia-ck-core2 260.19.36-2 (ck-core2)
    {NVIDIA drivers for kernel26-ck.}

In /var/log/errors.log i have following row:

kernel: nvidia: version magic '2.6.37-ck SMP preempt mod_unload 686 ' should be '2.6.37-ck SMP preempt mod_unload CORE2 '

Seems nvidia-ck-core2 build for general ck-package (kernel26-ck i686).

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@unikum - thanks for that info.  I fixed them (minor typo in PKGBUILD).  Please give a try now and let me know if your nvidia module works.

EDIT: I didn't bump the version number so you might have to either delete the nvidia-ck-core2...xz package from /var/cache/pacman/pkg or do a pacman -U http://home.comcast.net/~repo-ck/i686/n … pkg.tar.xz

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@graysky: thanks for your reply. I install driver from http://home.comcast.net/~repo-ck/i686/n … pkg.tar.xz and nothing change... This message appers again in /var/log/errrors.log:

kernel: nvidia: version magic '2.6.37-ck SMP preempt mod_unload 686 ' should be '2.6.37-ck SMP preempt mod_unload CORE2 '

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@unikum - thank you.  You helped me discover a pretty significant bug in my build script.  In short, the nvidia packages used the generic kernel's headers rather than the optimized kernel headers.  It's fixed now, the packages are updated, and I am typing this from my i686 partiion booted into kernel26-ck-core2 with nvidia-ck-core2!  Please try and let me know.  Same instructions as above.

Here is the little mistake in the code that is now fixed.  Thanks again!

maggie wrote:

From the gitlog:

"upgpkg: kernel26 2.6.37-6
rebuild against latest glibc, binutils git-svn-id: 109724 eb2447ed-0c53-47e4-bac8-5bc4a241df78"

I am reading this as glibc 2.13-3 and binutils 2.21-4, both of which are in [testing] need to be installed prior to kernel compilation. I can update the PKGBUILD which would do nothing except bump the pkgver. I can install both of these testing packages on my machine, and compile for the repo, but individual users will have to install those packages, THEN compile their own kernels if they're building from the AUR.  Perhaps I should wait until glibc and binutils are in the 'stable' repos before I bump the PKGBUILD in the AUR and in the repo?

Can people run the 2.6.37-6 release without updating glibc and binutils?  If so, I can update the repo, no problem, I just won't update the AUR until those two packages in safely out of [testing].

Thoughts are welcomed.

Strictly either follow stable or testing. As the wiki page says it follows the release cycle of "official" ARCH kernel26 package and does not mention testing, I would interpret that to follow stable, i.e. you should wait for -6 to hit core before updating kernel26-ck. If you want to follow testing, state that kernel26-ck must have testing enabled (possible side effect of getting more people using it?), but don't take a "middle road", regardless of actual compatibility.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@hokasch - good argument.  Guess I want this to be as up-to-date is possible and am opting to sync with the [testing] schedule.  Therefore, both glibc and binuntils have been temporarily added to the deps array in the PKGBUILD.  Users will need to snag them either by enabling [testing] in /etc/pacman.conf or simply by downloading via pacman -U.

Example on x86_64:

pacman -U ftp://ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/archlinux/testing/os/x86_64/glibc-2.13-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz ftp://ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/archlinux/testing/os/x86_64/binutils-2.21-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

Example on i686:

pacman -U ftp://ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/archlinux/testing/os/i686/binutils-2.21-4-i686.pkg.tar.xz ftp://ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/archlinux/testing/os/i686/glibc-2.13-3-i686.pkg.tar.xz

Once users have installed the new packages, simply sync and update with my repo and all will be well smile

Note that I am uploading to packages now and it should take about 40 min from now for all to get into the repo and rotated into place.

ENJOY!

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Viper_Scull - are you using the generic x86_64 packages or the k8 packages for your AMD Phenom II X4?  The PIIX4 is a k10 but there are no k10 packages.

Generic ones. There's a patch available for k10 family but just for x86.

Anyway i intend to change the platform within a few months (not so happy with the ipc of Athlon II core). When Bulldozer is released, i'll have to decide between them and Sandy Bridge.
