I have funny (but extremely irritating) problem with gvim and xfce. Sometimes gvim window begins to shrink in vertical direction and I have no way to stop this.
+--------------------+
Gvim
+--------------------+

^
| | |
+--------------------+
Also from time to time the window is resized to a size that makes the last line of text visible only in half.
This seems to be a problem either with gvim or xfwm4, because it happens only when these two are used together. I also checked the oroborus window manager which xfwm4 claims to be based on. Behaviour is the same!
This is problematic because I don't know whose fault is this - gvim or wm.
Did you experience the same problem?

Thanx for advice.
I'm actually using openbox3.
Only oroborus related wms have this problem and I'm very curious why.
(should be wmi not wim).

is who cheating? the flatscreens people? no it's a legitimate form of advertising called (yeah its an odd name) "viral advertising" - here's the deal:
gratis (the ad company) gets X dollars from places such as blockbuster.com and whatnot per person they can get to sign up (just for a free trial)... gratis figured that if a flatscreen cost Y dollars, they could buy a flatscreen with N people signing up and still make a profit (that is, Y < NX). Therefore, giving this flatscreen away causes more people to sign up - people get their flatscreens and tell their friends and even more people try and sign up... hence the "viral advertising" name.
These are the same people who do freeipods, freedesktoppc, freehandbags, and probably a few more (other companies are starting this as well).

I think that's still what it's called, but I think it's closer to a multi-level-marketing pyramid scheme paid for by companies advertising dollars.
Still very legit and a great marketing concept, but if you take it to it's extreme, it's impossible for _everyone_ to get a free device.
Also, what happens after you've met your quota for the device? will they let you rack up enough to get a second?
oof.. we're way off topic.
Regarding the screenproblem, a .jpg screenshot would help me picture the problem better, not that I could really offer much help :-)

A screenshot would be just eyecandy in this case. To see what's the problem, an ANIMATION would be needed. After the Gvim is mapped to the screen it shrinks LINE BY LINE until there is only one line of text visible. This process takes about 2 seconds.
Here is the ANIMATION:
frame #1:
+------+
abc
123
def
ghi
+------+
frame #2:
+------+
abc
123
def
+------+
frame #3:
+------+
abc
123
+------+
frame #4:
+------+
abc

This is annoying, because I need to WAIT a few seconds for this to end and then resize manually the window.
I hope you understand now. Try it yourself (xfce+gvim or oroborus+gvim)!

One more thing: the problem seems to happen ONLY if most part of the screen is covered by other windows before running gvim.

Where can I host the screenshot?

you can save an animation (video) from X by using xvidcap (in extra)
i use vi in an aterm in xfce4 and have no problems ... and now i tried gvim to try to reproduce your trouble, but i cannot reproduce

I confirm, there's no problems with gvim in Xfce4. Try reinstalling gvim;)
@phrakture: Did you get your free iPod? How easy it is to get a free device using this "wiral advertising"?
