[SOLVED] nvidia drivers

HI

I have a problem with poor functioning blur Kwin effect on KDE4.6, which I gather might be solved by using older drivers.

I remember once seeing some kind of resource that contained Arch builds for old nvidia drivers.

I'm using 2.6.37-ARCH and latest nvidia drivers.

Any help with that site?

Would older drivers and my kernel be compatible?

Thanks in advance

Re: [SOLVED] nvidia drivers

Just build whatever version you want by modifying the PKGBUILD.  Install abs then copy over /var/abs/extra/nvidia and do it... might need to it to nvidia-utils as well.

I would actually recommend that you use the beta version (newer) which might have fixes.  Grab nvidia-beta from the AUR.

Which won't work if they were built against a different kernel version than the latest one in core. Abs is a better tool for this.

@ Bazzaah

I somewhat doubt that older nvidia drivers will help. Try poking at the render methode for the compositing first.

1. Of course you need the matching kernel, you can pick any date you want e.g.

Server = http://arm.konnichi.com/2010/12/08/core/os/i686

2. I posted the link in case OP wanted to use the service in the future and didn't consult the wiki on downgrading packages :-)

Re: [SOLVED] nvidia drivers

Just updated and there were some updates to KDE and things seem to be working much better now.

Thanks for the info people, esp. the link to the old packages.

All this talk of kernels makes me want to use a custom kernel now.

So not entirely wasted after all smile
