[solved] video jerks / stutters after migrating from ATI to Nvidia

[solved] This only happens occasionally, so it might be a hardware issue.

I have set up a new Sandy-Bridge System using my SSD from my Thinkpad T60 laptop with arch already installed.
What's also new is that I am using an Nvidia card (my laptop contained an ATI card).

Playing video files (avi, divx, etc), both video and audio streams jerk.

SMplayer: both video and audio jerk
Dragonplayer & Mplayer: video seems to run in slow motion and jitters, audio works

What's weird is that mplayer and smplayer behave differently. I thought smplayer was just a front-end for mplayer.

Maybe I still have some libraries left over from the ATI days which are incompatible with NVIDIA?

Here's my specs:
2.6.37-ARCH x86_64 Core i7-2600K
nvidia-260.19.36-2

These were my specs on my Thinkpad:
2.6.37-ARCH x86_64 Core 2-T7200
xf86-video-ati-6.14.0-1

Any hints are welcome

Not quite an answer but I was having similar problems on my Thinkpad W700, changing from alsa to oss solved the problem for me.
